Job description

Do you want to play a key role in setting requirements and exercising oversight so that the cleanup of Norway’s historical nuclear activities is conducted safely and responsibly? The Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) is strengthening our work on safety and has several vacant positions. You will get exciting tasks at the intersection of safety, emergency preparedness, pollution, and waste management—within a complex area that receives significant attention. Norway is now at a critical stage. The historical nuclear facilities are being decommissioned, while new facilities for managing spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste are being established. In addition, we are building new competence in various assessments related to new nuclear and monitoring international developments in this field. We are looking for individuals with high integrity and relevant professional expertise - or a strong interest in this field. We welcome both recent graduates and more experienced professionals. You may have education or experience in safety work and/or design and construction, emergency preparedness, risk assessments, or other relevant STEM backgrounds. We are looking for candidates that are highly engaged and want to apply their competence at the nuclear safety authority to meet large and complex challenges. At DSA, you will work in a strong professional environment with significant impact, and you will be responsible for your own tasks from day one. Necessary training will be provided. In these positions, you will contribute to important regulatory tasks such as: • Casework and regulatory oversight of complex facilities and activities with high safety requirements • Review and assessment of technical documentation, analyses, safety and risk impact assessments • Making decisions on applications related to nuclear facilities and associated activities • Contributing to national and international collaborative forums • Working with emergency preparedness, risk management, and managing incidents • Building competence and providing regulatory guidance to operators, organizations and partners • Participating in nuclear emergency preparedness related to nuclear facilities When evaluating applicants, we place emphasis on formal competence, relevant experience, and personal suitability. We are looking for individuals who have: • A minimum of a master’s degree, preferably in STEM, technology, societal safety, emergency preparedness, or other relevant fields. Extensive and relevant work experience may compensate for the lack of a master’s degree • Strong written and oral communication skills It is an advantage if you have: • Experience in safety work and/or design and construction, or experience from other comparable sectors with strict safety requirements • Experience in preparing or evaluating risk assessments, safety assessments, and/or safety analyses • Experience in public administration, preferably with reviewing technical documentation, setting requirements, providing guidance, and supervision Recent graduates with a relevant academic background and interest in the field are encouraged to apply for advisory positions. For the position of investigator, high expertise in the field is required. The role will be assigned complex advisory and research tasks that demand advanced competence and expertise at a high professional level. Diploma and relevant certificates must be uploaded as attachments to the online application. Higher education completed outside Norway must be recognized by the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT), and documentation of this recognition must be provided. To succeed in this position, we are looking for individuals who: • Take initiative, work independently, and have a high sense of responsibility and execution capability • Have analytical skills and a structured approach to problem-solving • Communicate clearly and effectively, share knowledge, and actively contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration • Understand the importance of a strong safety culture Security clearance DSA is subject to the Security Act, and you must be authorized at the LIMITED level. Employees are required to maintain clearance throughout the employment period. For more information about the clearance process, see: www.sivilklareringsmyndighet.no. Relevant candidates will be asked about their security suitability and connections to countries identified as high-risk by the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) in their open threat assessment. Norwegian language training is offered if needed. Some travel - both domestic and international - must be expected.
